Specialist High Skills Majors are designed to help students in Grade 11 and 12 explore a career path that matches their skills and interests while also meeting the requirements of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Students pursuing an SHSM complete a specific bundle of courses in the selected field, earn industry certifications, and gain skills through experiential opportunities in cooperative education placements.
Eastside Secondary School is pleased to offer three SHSM opportunities that afford students real-world experiences and qualifications that will prepare them for life after high school in their chosen fields.
Construction SHSM: This program prepares students for a future in the construction sector. Students will experience a number of opportunities to work with their hands, design and build a variety of projects, and practice problem-solving and teamwork.
Digital Media (Information & Communications Technology) SHSM: This program focuses on various aspects of digital media. Students will develop their digital fluency by exploring TV production, photography, animation and digital sound recording among other exciting areas of skill and knowledge.
Academy of Sports SHSM: This program immerses students in the business and performance aspects of sport. Students will engage in learning experiences related to Sports Performance and Management through specially-created projects and partnerships in the community.
