Consolidation planning update for the Belleville secondary schools including the naming process
For September 2018, the three current Belleville secondary schools will be consolidated into two secondary schools. Both Moira Secondary School and Quinte Secondary School will close in June 2018 and a new secondary school will open in September 2018 at the former Moira Secondary School site. The new school will welcome Quinte Secondary School and Moira Secondary School students as a result of the boundary changes. As well in September 2018, Centennial Secondary School will welcome Quinte Secondary School students through boundary changes.
The planning for these changes are well underway by a number of groups. An Integration Committee has been formed which include representatives from School Council, Student Council, staff and our community from each of the 3 school secondary schools along with school superintendents. The committee meets regularly and you can find updates on the activities of this committee along with other news in the HPEDSB Connections communications that can be accessed at http://bit.ly/HPE_Connections One of the current activities of the Integration Committee is working through the process of selecting a name for the new school. The first round of name submissions will be received until Wednesday, November 15th and the form to provide this information can be accessed at http://bit.ly/nameBellevilleschool. All members of our school community are encouraged to submit their ideas for the new name.
If you have questions and/or comments as we plan these transitions, please contact the school or the Education Centre for more information.

Presenting a "Moira Minute" featuring Joe Brown talking about our new Indigenous Gathering Space
Moira Secondary School is proud to announce that our technology expertise has now moved us into the radio broadcasting field with the production of a “Moira Minute”. Our technology department has partnered with Loyalist College to provide the opportunity to create and produce broadcasts on a weekly basis for 91X FM that airs at 4:40 pm and 8:40 pm on Fridays.
This week’s Moira Minute features Joe Brown, one of our Indigenous educational counsellors at the school, talking about our new Indigenous Gathering Space. This project has developed through the close partnership with our Mohawk community and we are looking forward to the development of new learning to support all students in Indigenous ways of knowing at the school and in the community.
